About me

I'm just an ordinary woman, from a low earning family. I'm not even 20 yet, well just turned 19 actually but I already have a longing for a financially secure life.

Whilst growing up I've watched my family struggle. They've always had some sort of debt to pay, either they needed to pay off their overdrafts, their several credit cards, or just money that they owed to our family friends and relatives.

When I was around 10 years old I would've never been able to see myself working in McDonald's but that was exactly what I went on to do as my first job. I was a crew member for McDonald's after turning 16 and receiving my National Insurance number. At that time I was still actually in education, I still had my GCSEs to complete and I was done with that in 2013. I left my secondary school with 13 A*-C GCSEs, so I should've gone on to do my A-Levels.

That's exactly what I did, I went to a decent sixth form where I wanted to complete my A-Levels. The plan was to go to University after the 2 years of completing my A-Levels. But I never completed it. The first year of sixth form I messed around a lot and didn't take anything seriously which I admit was a stupid mistake. I decided to retake my year and so everything was going according to plan. That was until half way through my retake year, when I realised I had a lot of responsibilities that I had to carry on my shoulders. I was the eldest child in my family so I was bound with responsibilities on being the next bread winner of the family. I had 4 other siblings to look after.

I'm not going to lie, it wasn't easy. Changing the dream of someday having a University degree to one day having nothing to look forward to other than a generally mediocre job, that earns well enough to look after my family.

Consequently half way through my retake year I left sixth form, I had just turned 18 at that time. Turning 18 was a plus, not because I could go clubbing like the other kids look forward to when turning that age. Instead it was a plus because it opened up more job opportunities. Which leads to my next job... In February 2015 I got a job as a customer service adviser for Santander bank. I worked for the credit card sector so it wasn't anything special really. On the other hand it was the most tedious of all the things I have done in life so far. I had no choice but to do late shifts so someday's they would make me work till 11pm. It was a stressful job, 8 hours non stop taking calls from customer who were really not happy most the time, with only a 30 minute break in that 8 hours. So as you can guess it wasn't anybody's ideal job so it was understandable to why their staff turnover was over 90%.

I now work for a Tesco warehouse. I'm not going to lie this job takes a lot out of you. I don't have to use my brain for it and I'm doing the same thing every single day. Just packing what people purchase through the Online Tesco store. Sometimes the items can be really heavy and large so you get the point. I'm either not tall enough or strong to be able to pack it comfortably.

It's only been a month since I've been working at the warehouse and there has several times were I've wondered; 'is this it? Is this all I'll be doing all my life? It can't be'. Now that's when it hit me. I can't just sit there and accept what life is throwing at me. I need to fight back with my own life and use it to achieve something.

That's were this project comes in. I want this experiment to obviously go the right way and earn something from it. At the same time I don't want it to just benefit me, I want to be able to do good by others as well, by you guys! I want to be able to provide you guys all the information about what I do. So that it helps you understand why to follow some of the strategies or why not to follow a certain method. Along the way I'll be helping myself, by trial and error. Everything I do along the way I will include on this blog and if you're tired of reading don't forget to check out my YouTube channel were I will include a video diary of what I do.
